If you know me at all you know I’m all about organization and having a routine. A morning routine is one of the ways I stay on top of all the things and get ready to face my day.
Let’s get the truth out there first. I DON’T WANT to get up in the morning. I’d rather lay in bed until someone is calling for me. BUT if I want to be the best person I can be I/We have to prepare for the day before our kids are out of bed.
What is a morning routine? All a morning routine consists of, are a few priorities you plan to do each morning. This means getting up a little early, while the house is still quiet. I know, you think losing another hour of sleep will make you go insane, but having a plan to tackle the day makes everything smoother.
A morning routine cuts back on overwhelm and anxiety. You can adjust your thoughts and have a game plan before your mind is going crazy. You can maybe get in a cup of coffee or two before your brain is on survival mode. You need to do this one thing for yourself!
My morning routine
Up at 5am
Journal, bible reading and prayer time
Exercise
Shower
Take over with the kids and make breakfast with them
I have my 3 priorities that are most important to me laid out
Time with God
Move my body
Provide for my family
If I can get these 3 things done, my day already feels like a win. And when I feel like I’ve won, it makes bracing all the chaos a little easier. I think the psychological warfare we play on ourselves is crazy, but I find if I can have a small win first thing in the morning my day goes smoother.
This means I am up early regardless of the days I am working or not working. Up at 5 and ready before starting at 7 or up at 5, morning routine and playing with the kids. However, the weekends are a little different. They’re a little more laid back, unless its a weekend I am working, my husband and I take turns sleeping in, getting a little extra zzs and having an easy morning. Either way the continues inside and outside the home.
What’s your morning routine? Comment the one thing you HAVE to do each morning.
