The Musts to Get Through a Road Trip With Kids
Let’s face the facts. Driving with kids in the back of a car on a road trip is not what I call a good time. Most of the time is spent trying to maintain sanity, all the while driving and keeping control of a screaming car. Not to worry, I have some essentials tips to keeping sanity on a long drive.
After taking a road trip back and forth from New Hampshire to Florida, I’ve learned a few lessons about road trips. I seriously underestimated how amazing it is to have a second driver with you. As I tackled this drive twice with kiddos in the care, I learned there is much more to road trips than I thought. Here are my musts for those long, solo drives.
1. Protein Filled Snacks
Grab the beef jerky, protein shakes and whatever filling and healthy options you can find for this journey. If you are like me you make as little stops as possible when driving. I even try to beat google maps time if I can. Hey we all need a few games to play for the ride.
2. A Good Book on Audio
To get you through those tired spells you need an intriguing and mind distracting book to keep you going. Along with three or four energy drinks to really keep you going.
3. Kids books and headphones
While I’ve downloaded a million books and podcasts to listen to for myself, the kiddos also need a distraction and something to keep their mind going. I’ll bring my headphones and let the kids listen to their own audio books through the car radio. My boys are a big fan of the Boxcar Kids Mysteries. Whatever book occupies there mind ad makes the hours go by.
Road trips can be fun, but they are never easy. These hacks helped me get through some of my longest trips with kids in the back seat. How do you survive the long road trips? Are you solo or kids in tow?
