A Day in the Life of a Travel Nurse

The first day on a new job a change of career, a new life

First day on a new job and life felt different as a travel nurse. The last year had certainly changed the way the live world lived, never mind the Cooper family. As a nurse I had never imagined my career would take my family to Colorado, but here we are, step after step, one more inch closer to the door, closer to change.

First days are a challenge

Walking through the doors on my first day felt both like a dream and a nightmare. Confidence was not my strong suit in life and a travel nurses needs to exude confidence, learn for a moment and dive in. Was I ready to make a change? Did I move my entire family just to fail on the first day?

These were the thoughts that swirled through my head as I entered the doors. The first hospital that excepted my contract was a small long term acute care hospital in Colorado. Lucky for me the staff was warm and inviting and I made many friends I still miss. I learned that hospitals still use paper charting and bonding as a nurse only takes a giant wound or a pain in the butt patient.

Fresh start again

Through the course of the next year I learned many lessons, on life as a nurse on how pandemics and year long stress can change the best nurses on great successes and great pain. The Cooper family has had many adventures many beautiful, breathtaking moments and moments with tears, struggles and wondering if there will be a job down the road.

I want to share these moments with you as a nurse to inspire you to keep going. To push through the hard for the beautiful. I want to lift upon my fellow nurses in a time where we are broken and to bring awareness to the many challenges we face. Take a travel journey with me into the life of a family traveling along side their favorite nurse.

Getting on all the gear

In the next few weeks I’ll be posting some of my daily entries into my travel journal. A little sneak peak into what the last year has showed us. I can’t wait to share with you. Stay tuned for the first entry next week!
