Lessons On The Road

Finding Adventures and Learning while Cruising the Country

We love to adventure with our boys and teaching them lessons for life. The main reason we decided to start traveling was to show our boys all this country has to offer. As a travel nurse, my family gets the unique opportunity to see different states and parts of the US. We get to see the world up close, this also poses a problem with frequent moving around and finding time to home school and find a daily routine.

How do we find the time to teach new lessons?

We use one main curriculum for teaching the day to day (math, science, english) while adding in some additional education for what we are seeing around us. We love this home school moms website called Ben and Me. Free on her website are lessons on each state. We love adding these in for our boys to learn about the state we are in. In addition we adapt lessons for when we visit interesting historic sites like the Hoover Dam or Mount Rushmore, we learn the history of the place we are going. I love bringing learning up close for my kids. I see them grasp learning and ideas better when they can see, feel and hear what we are learning.

Seeing all the Florida creatures

For the world today, my boys often hear more than we think and more of what the world is talking about. I want them to know both sides of the story ad the facts about how the country works. During times like this year when a big election circling around us and are the topics of many conversations. We have taken this as an opportunity to talk about electoral colleges, what makes up the government and how the voting process works. Current events are always a great way for the boys to learn because they can see it up close and in real time.

Traveling while homeschooling has taught us many lessons, but I believe they will continue to let us see the world up close, love those around us and appreciate all this amazing country has to offer.
