How We Are Juggling Home school, Our School, Work and Adventure
As I have been updating our calendars over the last week I realized all of the many tasks and hats we are juggling as a family. I wondered how we managed all of this in the day to day, as most of the time we don’t really think about it, we just keep going. That’s what many of us do, right? We don’t realize the many tasks we take on and we simply keep going. Today, I’m sharing how we manage the many things and find time to explore all the while.
As someone that is traveling, it is extremely important to me to be able to have time to explore. Even while juggling all the other tasks on our plate. At home, I felt similar, I always wanted time to be present and just have fun. Fun is the spice of life, there is no point in just continuing forward and forward if there is no time to enjoy. That’s why we schedule and try our best to manage our day to day to fit in plenty of adventure and fun. Here’s how
1. Do Not Be Afraid of The Schedule
There are days to have fun and days to get things done. I’ll admit some of our days are not particularly adventurous. We plan days where we are just home. John and I are doing school with the boys, then they are watching a movie while we tackle our school work. We run errands, grocery shop and just get tasks done. Don’t be afraid to schedule these times in. If you spend one day checking to dos off the list you can have other days to adventure. We tend to spend an entire day doing chores, but you can also divide days if that is easier for you.
2. Use Pockets of Time
Little pockets of time can add up. Check out this post on resetting daily routines. Just as saving change can add to your savings plan. There are some days I get ready for work 10 minutes early, I use that pocket to look up school work or plan for the day ahead. Some days I am out of work on time (I know, hard to believe). I use the time after work to start on a paper or research for the week. These pockets allow me to have more time on the days ahead and have more freedom to adventure.
3. Plan for the Week
I usually spend Sundays planning for the week ahead. I look up what is due for school this week, I ask John what the boys have for school and I list out any hikes, adventures, sights I want us to travel to. This allows us to plan out the week ahead and use our time as efficiently as we can. Planning out the week doesn’t make you a super scheduler. Being in the know simply allows you to use pockets of time efficiently to have the most time possible for fun.
These are just a few simple steps we implement, but they have made a huge difference in the amount of time we are allowed to have as a family and having fun. When I know there is a fun day ahead it makes getting through the grind of chores and school work easier. Allow some fun in your life, even if you are not traveling, it’s worth it !
