A Recap Of Our Travel and Adventures Through the South Dakota Plains
First we adventured through Colorado , now we are wrapping up in South Dakota in our RV life as a travel nurse and family !
Before traveling to the state of South Dakota, I never thought it would be a state I would stay in. I would say “I’ll probably just drive through the see Mount Rushmore.” I never knew all this state had to offer until I took a contract here. Now, I reccommend everyone come by this state and see all the amazing wonders the prairie holds. Here are some of our favorite adventures:
Dino Park
What kiddo doesn’t dig climbing on dinosaurs. These life size replicas allowing kids to climb, jump and see just how big these amazing creatures are.
Bear Country USA
My boys are constantly asking to go back here. This is a drive through the wildlife park where you see bears, elk, and some of South Dakotas animals up close.
Custer State Park
This is the largest state park in South Dakota and allows you to really explore the Black Hills all while catching and being stuck between bison. These larger than life animals roam free though the park. We adventured to see 4 out of the 7 lakes they have inside the park as well as hiked through nearly 12 trails. There are endless possibilities for exploration here. Each summer they have trail challenges, where you win a medallion for hiking all the trails on the list (about 7). The boys were really excited for their prize at the end. Just head into the local visitor center for the info.
Spearfish Canyon
Filled with beautiful waterfalls and glimpses of foliage this was one of our favorite spots. You cna drive through the canyons and stop for the short hikes to Devils Bath, Roughlok Falls, Bridal Viel Falls and Spearfish Falls.
Downtown Rapid City
With close up looks at presidents and amazing restaurants, downtown Rapid City holds adventure for the whole family. We loved walking down the streets trying to guess the presidents, catching lunch and of course jumping in the splash pad.
Mount Evans
Inside Custer state park you can drive to the top of Mount Evans. Ont op there are scenic views from the fire tower.
Mount Rushmore
It was amazing to see this craftsmanship up close and walk the presidential trail. We loved exploring there so much we went back twice.
Rodeo
If you are in town in august, checking out the rodeo is a must. We laughed, saw amazing balloon work by the rodeo clown and awed at all the riders strength to hold on.
Storybook Island
A free play area for kids that is filled with all the characters they know in love. We spent hours there letting the boys urn wild with all there is to do.
Badlands National Park
Filled with awe inspiring canyons, this adventure required a whole day adventure.
Candyland
What kid (or adult) doesn’t enjoy a building full of candy and mini golf.
South Dakota was an unexpected adventure, but has turned into our favorite place for fun and beauty. We will definitely miss this place and all the wonder this state holds.
What a great adventure! ❤️
