3 Ways We Give Back On a Budget

When money’s tight and you still want to give

Fostering a heart of giving has always been important to me in motherhood. I want my kids to appreciate what they have and give some back to others. Even when our budget has been pinched tight we have found small ways to give to those around us. Ways to help our community and foster a heart of giving, not only in our children, but in us as well.

1. Give Out Homeless Bags

One of the simplest and easiest ways we give back is by making homeless bags. We put together small bags of soap, deodorant, trail mix, socks, underwear, toys, and children’s clothes. Some of the items come from items we were cleaning out or planning to donate and others we pick up at the store. We place the items in a reusable shopping bag and hand them out to anyone we see in our commutes and adventures.

We have bags just like these and fill them with snacks and hygiene care

Someone with a sign by the stop light, I open my window and hand them a bag. Outside the grocery store, walking the streets, on my way to work. The bags are packed and ready to go in my car should the need arise. I love these bags because they don’t cost a lot of money, but make a huge difference to those receiving.

2. Give By Helping Friends in Need

We all have needs. Whether your car broke down and you need a ride or your sick and can’t get yourself up to cook a meal. Needs arise in our friendships and in our communities. Why not be the helping hand to a friend or neighbor? The cost is usually minimum, a little bit of gas money or cooking a meal, but the weight off another’s shoulders can be uplifting and just what they need in a time of crisis. Volunteer to be the help if you can!

3. Give with Relief Aid

Another way we give back is by helping those in less fortunate countries. There are many relief organizations that give back and help countries in need. After research, we found Compassion international to align with our priorities and decided to donate. A small fee is charged each month and given directly to the child to provide their basic needs. We love that they share the love of Jesus with these children as well, but find a company that you admire and support and give.

Whether you chose one or all of these ways to donate finding a small way to give back to the community fosters a heart of giving and outreach to others. I know when I have been in a time of need I was incredibly thankful to those that stepped up and helped where I could not.
