Managing the Home as a Team

How to find rhythm in the chaos of home life

There are many items on the To Do list and household chores take up many of them. I remember feeling overwhelmed and consumed with household items as a new mom. How was I going to keep up on the home when I had a new baby to take care of? Never mind now that there’s three. I knew I needed a plan to manage the household to do’s.

If only my kitchen looked like this

I sat down and asked my husband for help. I couldn’t live in the constant overwhelm, stress and chaos of keeping up with everything. We settled on a weekly plan. We would manage a different household item each day and we would work on them together as a team.

We planned one task each day of the week, keeping it simple. Just one added task each day was manageable. We could keep up on the household chores and maintain some sanity, I was ecstatic.

Here’s our plan:

Sunday: A day to rest and recover from the week

Monday: Clean bathrooms

Tuesday: Clean Living Room and playroom

Wednesday: Clean Bedrooms

Thursdays: Clean Kitchen and school room

Friday: Meal Prep

Saturday: Laundry Day

Daily tasks like dishes and general pickup I usually do throughout the day with the kids. If the day is hectic and I can’t get them done before leaving for work or the kids are crazy, John and I do them together after the kids go to bed. The cleaning schedule is done either by myself or good days, by John on those bad bad days and together on the crazy days. We like to tackle household to dos and projects together as a team.

The dishes are always piling up

This makes cleaning not only more fun, but easier too! It’s a pain to clean alone, why not tackle the tasks together, be less stressed and have way more fun! For more on keeping all the things together and where we printed our cleaning schedule read our post on Family Binders.
