Rest and Recovery

Week 5 of 6 Weeks to An Organized Life

Rest and recovery are an important part of endurance and building stamina for our bodies. Without the proper rest, without allowing our bodies to recover, muscles will break down. The same is true for brain muscle. Often we allow the rest of our bodies time to recover, but our brains have to remain on high alert. Always focusing on the next task at hand.

A poolside drink never hurts

I know you have heard me talk about having schedules and systems in place in order to crush your goals and not feel overwhelmed BUT a big part of why I am able to stay on track is because I allow myself rest.

Rest and recovery can look different for each person. Sometimes rest is allowing myself to escape into an fictional audio book on my commute instead of an informative podcast. Rest could be taking time to meditate or going to bed early. Some days I skip a home school day to clear my brain and the kids spend the day in front of the TV. I believe these days where you have a break, where you don’t need to think, allow your brain to recover and be even more on point in the days to follow.

If only I could have rest and recovery like this dude does

Prioritizing a rest and recovery day may means you have to miss out on other opportunities. You do not and I repeat DO NOT have to say yes to everything. There are good things, good opportunities that will come your way that you will want to say yes to. But let’s face it, you may be the greatest planner in the world and you still only have 24 hours like everyone else. You still need a break. I write about his more in depth in my post about saying no.

“Overwhelm isn’t having to much to do..it’s not knowing where to start” Tonya Dalton in The Joy of Missing Out

Tonya Dalton’s book The Joy of Missing Out goes into amazing details about what we should and should not take on. That there is joy when we can focus on our priorities. Now, that may mean we say no to a few things, miss out on other things, but there is joy in knowing where we are going and having a finish line.

I wish rest always involved a hot tub

Are you ready for a rest and recovery day? I know I am. Take an hour this week to do something for you, whether that’s listening to an audio book instead of productivity or taking 5 minutes to meditate and visualize your day. Give your brain the rest and recovery it desperately needs.
