Vacationing with Kids 101

The thought of taking those little pip squeaks on a tour of France sounds exhausting, doesn’t it! But vacationing with your kids doesn’t have to be a nightmare. Here’s how we tackle those vacations that require the most luggage.

If you’re road tripping bring activities for the kids to do in the car. Don’t expect that they’ll sit staring at a movie for 5 hours. God bless you if your kids do !! Sometimes I wish mine would. We plan lots of little activities. Road games like fishing signs or different colored license plates. We play I spy and guess the number. I also bring play things like legos or blocks and have a tray that attached to the car seats for my kids to play on. Then I try and switch the activity every half hour before they get bored.

Pack only the essentials. I know you what 75 headbands and cute dresses but resist the urge, you’ll be ok. Maybe I have an easier time with this because I have a house full of boys BUT just do yourself a favor and pack only what you need.

Plan some downtime. I want to show my kids all the things and I love sight seeing on vacation but if you book up every second, you are not going to get rest and your kids will be all sorts of cranky. You know your kids and what they can handle and plan in some time where they can just chill or you can, even better 😉

My last tip is snacks. Pack all the snacks and buy some more. Kids are always better when they are fed or have a sweet treat. Don’t underestimate the power of a bag of snacks. Our best friend is the veggie and apple sauce pouches. Good nutritious food on the go that’s so easy to pack.
